Avitar, Inc. Acquires BJR Security Service, Inc.

CANTON, MA, March 12, 2001 – Avitar, Inc. (AMEX:AVR) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of BJR Security Service, Inc., a privately held company located in Gainesville, Texas. BJR will function as a wholly owned subsidiary of Avitar, Inc. Financial details have not been disclosed.

"BJR has a profitable business model for marketing substance detection programs and has already been instrumental in bringing new business to Avitar. We plan to continue their growth both internally and through franchising throughout the United States," he added.

Carl F. Rickert, Jr., President and Owner of BJR Security Service, Inc., was formerly a state police officer in the New Hampshire State Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Mr. Rickert will continue to function as the President of BJR.
